Baseball Bounces Back With Win Over Fontbonne

DAVENPORT, Fla. - Marymount baseball erased a four run deficit to bounce back into the win column Thursday afternoon in a 9-5 win over Fontbonne to wrap up their Florida trip.

The Saints improve to 11-1 before heading back to Virginia tomorrow evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling into a hole, down 4-0, the Saints answered with a run in the bottom of the third via a sacrifice fly from Alec Reilly, scoring Quincy Via who singled and stole second earlier in the frame.
  • After the Griffins tacked on another in the top of the fourth, Marymount again shot back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back singles from Jonathan McMath and Jay Beavers opened the frame, leading to a bunt situation for Jordan Dickson, who legged out the single and caused an errant throw to score McMath. Daniel Fernandez took care of business, knocking a sacrifice fly for the second run of the inning for the Saints and put them within two.
  • MU continued to stay hot at the plate the next inning, with Bobby Leitzel leading off with a double down the left field line. Ryan Cuadros, in the next at-bat, hit a sharp single to right to score Leitzel with ease.
  • In the same inning, Reilly knocked a solo home run to right field, his second of the season, to tie up the score.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Saints didn't sleep. Another sharp single up the middle from Via, followed by his patent steal of second, led to an RBI shot to right field from Leitzel. Cuadros immediately followed with his second RBI single of the afternoon.
  • Adding on two more in the bottom of the seventh, Criag Sodano took advantage of his pinch hit opportunity, hitting a two-run single to left field, scoring Dickson and Jordan Hayes.
  • Michael Arce earned his first win of his career on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to notch the win for the Saints.
  • Leitzel was 4-for-5 on the day with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Beavers went 2-for-3 on the day.
  • Cuadros went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
  • Reilly knocked his homer, finishing the day with two RBI.

  • They will be back at home at Capital One Park on Tuesday, Mar. 12, taking on Randolph-Macon at 6 PM.
