PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Marymount women's lacrosse hopped back into the win column on Saturday afternoon, moving past the Cougars of Chatham for a decisive 19-7 win.
The Saints improve to 5-5 on the season ahead of AEC action beginning next week after Easter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kaylee Heath got the Saints rolling, scoring the first two goals of the contest within the first five minutes. Taylor Chepren was credited with the assist on the first goal of the day.
- Riley Love got on the board quickly with her first goal of the day at the 10:02 mark in the first quarter to give Marymount a 3-0 cushion.
- Chepren found Tess Valentino, who gave the Saints a four-goal advantage with her first score of the day.
- The Saints scored four more times in under six minutes of the first quarter, with goals from Ella Baker, Megan Edens, Chepren, and Love, to head into the second quarter of play with a 8-0 lead.
- Love notched the first goal of the second quarter, quickly followed by another Chepren/Valentino pair up score, to push the Saints to a double-digit lead.
- The two teams traded shots down the stretch of the second quarter, but the Saints maintained pressure, heading into halftime with a lead of 14-4. Lawson Kopfinger highlighted the quarter with her first career goal.
- Chepren scored the Saints' lone goal in the third quarter.
- Natalia Ortiz, Baker, and Valentino each scored in the fourth and final quarter, leading the Saints to their decisive winning effort.
- Chepren led the way for the Saints, putting up a career-high eight points, behing two goals and six assists, while picking up a pair of ground balls.
- Valentino posted another five-goal performance for the Saints.
- Love had seven points on three goals and four assists, adding a ground ball.
- Edens, on top of her two goals, added five draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
- Heath picked up a pair of ground balls alongside her two goals.
- Abby Dunn had five draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
- Bailey Gehler collected seven draw controls, an assist, and a ground ball.
- Hannah Smith earned the win in the goal with nine total saves.
- Jillian Blair added a goal and an assist in the winning effort with a caused turnover.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will be back in action at home this upcoming Wednesday for AEC play, taking on Immaculata at 4 PM.
- They will follow that up with another home AEC matchup with Cabrini on Saturday at 1 PM.
