Women's Lacrosse Moves to 1-0 in Conference Play; Goes Past Immaculata

ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's lacrosse hosted the Mighty Macs of Immaculata on Wednesday evening in their AEC opening affair.

Powering past IU by a final score of 20-11, the Saints improve to 6-5 overall on the year, now sitting at 1-0 in the AEC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints opened the contest with four unanswered goals, coming from four different Saints: Taylor Chepren, Kaylee Heath, Bailey Gehler, and Tess Valentino.
  • After a Mighty Mac goal to cut into the lead, the Saints answered with another pair from Gehler and Valentino, both assisted by Riley Love.
  • The two teams traded goals to finish out the first quarter with Marymount looking at a 7-2 lead.
  • After Immaculata opened the next quarter with a goal, the Saints again didn't let it falter their approach, scoring three unanswered down the stretch of the first half to take a 10-3 lead into intermission.
  • Love found Gehler again for the first goal of the second half, immediately followed by a Mighty Macs goal, but again answered by a 3-0 run from the Saints.
  • Marymount scored the final two goals of the third quarter to push their lead to 16-7 with one quarter left of action.
  • The two teams evened up with four goals apiece in the fourth quarter, with the Saints maintining the advantage to take that big win.
  • Love led the way for the Saints by posting a career-high 13 points. One goal and two assists led her to the line while also picking up a pair of ground balls.
  • Heath, Gehler, and Valentino each notched four goals in the win.
  • Chepren collected four points on three goals and an assist.
  • Ella Baker had three goals and two ground balls.
  • Abby Dunn picked up six ground balls, caused a pair of turnovers, and scooped up four draw controls.
  • Lawson Kopfinger added a goal for the Saints.
  • Hannah Smith moved to 6-5 on the year in the goal with 14 total saves.

  • The Saints will be back in AEC action at home this Saturday, taking on Cabrini at 1 PM.
