ARLINGTON -- In a rematch from No. 19 Marymount men's volleyball's season opener, the Saints handled Stevenson in three sets on Tuesday night to improve to 19-5 on the season.Â
NOTABLE
- Diego Pena played a spectacular match, putting down seven kills with no errors on nine attempts (.778 hitting percentage) while adding 22 assists and eight digs.Â
- Luke Pogue also played a flawless match at the net, finishing with six kills and no errors on eight chances.Â
- Luke Morris had 12 kills while hitting .364 on the night.Â
- As a team, Marymount hit .400.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount raced out to a 9-3 lead early in the first set before Stevenson fought back to take a 20-17 lead.Â
- After going down 23-21, Marymount scored the final four points to take the first set, 25-23.Â
- In set two, the Saints took control with six straight points on Morris' serve.Â
- The set was never really in doubt as Marymount won easily, 25-14. A highlight of the set was back-to-back digs from Seth Richards to get MU a point and a 24-14 lead.Â
- Stevenson started out well in the final set and tied the set 18-18 at one point.Â
- Esteban Jauregui closed out the match with a decisive kill to give Marymount a 25-22 victory.Â
UP NEXT
- Marymount heads into the final week of the regular season starting with a pivotal road matchup on Friday night against No. 8 Juniata.Â
- The Saints return to Converse Family Fieldhouse on Wednesday to take on No. 2 Southern Virginia to close out CVC action.
