Softball Takes Two from Neumann

ARLINGTON - Marymount softball picked up a pair of come-from-behind conference wins over Neumann on Friday afternoon, including a walk-off single in game two by Kammie Brown.

NOTABLE
  • Kaylynn Johnson went 4-for-4 in game one with the go-ahead three-run shot in the bottom of the 5th inning. She also delivered the game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning of game two. 
  • Brown went 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot in game two and delivered the walk-off single in extra innings.  
  • Shanyn Burch picked up a pair of wins in relief. 
GAME ONE (8-5 W)
  • Marymount opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning with an RBI single from Brown. Jaclyn Burch followed it up with a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home Avery Yardis
  • An RBI double from Johnson and an RBI single from Shanyn Burch made it 4-0 to close out the 2nd inning. 
  • Over the next two innings, Neumann responded and took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 5th. 
  • With two outs in the bottom of the 5th, J. Burch tied the game with an RBI single through the left side. 
  • Johnson followed that up with a three-run homer to left field to break the tie and make it 8-5 after five innings. 
  • S. Burch didn't allow a runner past first base in the final two frames to clinch the 8-5 win. 
GAME TWO (3-2 W)
  • Things started out well for Neumann as the Knights loaded the bases in the top of the 1st before Marymount turned a 5-2-3 double play to get out of the jam. 
  • Neumann broke the scoreless tie with an unearned run in the top of the 4th. 
  • In the bottom of the frame, Jenna Jew pushed a pair of runners into scoring with a sacrifice bunt before Samantha Richtol tied the game at 1-1 with a timely single to left. 
  • The Knights jumped ahead with another run in the top of the 5th. 
  • Marymount was unable to draw even in the bottom of the frame despite loading the bases with no outs. 
  • With runners on first and second in the bottom of the 7th, Johnson stepped in and drilled a single the opposite way. Ashleigh Mannion made it home from second to tie the game at 2-2. 
  • Marymount found itself in the exact same situation in the following inning as Brown stepped in and drilled a single to left field that brought in Jew from second for a dramatic 3-2 win. 
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will now have the weekend off before traveling to face Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday, March 28 at 12 PM.
  • After the Easter break, Marymount will welcome Salisbury to Barcroft Park on Friday, April 5 beginning at 3 PM.
