ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's lacrosse won their second straight with a 16-11 hard fought win over the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson.
With the win, the Saints move over the .500 mark at 4-3 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Presidents got on the board first after over five minutes of scoreless play, but the Saints answered with three unanswered from Tess Valentino (assisted by Taylor Chepren), Arayla Garcia, and Riley Love to take a 3-1 lead in the first quarter.
- After a W&J goal, MU again answered with another to retake their three-goal lead, this one with Chepren finding Valentino for her second goal of the day.
- The second quarter was all Marymount, as they scored six unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Valentino sank another pair in the run, with Natalia Ortiz, Ella Baker, Chepren and Garcia each adding on.
- The Presidents closed the half with a goal, then opening the second half with four more to chip into the Saints' lead. The score sat at 10-7 with 4:25 left to play in the quarter.
- Marymount put three into the net to finish off the quarter. Valentino, Love, and Kaylee Heath each were credited with a goal.
- W&J outscored the Saints 4-3 in the final quarter, but it wouldn't be enough as the Saints take the game to move to four wins on the year.
- Valentino led the offensive effort with five goals and an assist for six total points.
- Love had two goals and two assists for four points, adding a pair of ground balls.
- On top of her two goals, Baker added a ground ball and a caused turnover.
- Megan Edens had an assist with two ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover.
- Chepren put up six points with her three goals and three assists.
- Garcia, on top of her pair of goals, had six draw controls.
- Abby Dunn had four draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
- Hannah Smith earned the win in the goal with 16 total saves, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.
- Jillian Blair added a draw control with three ground balls.
UP NEXT
- MU will head to Arcadia this weekend, taking on the Knights this Saturday at 3 PM.
- They will be back at home next Wednesday against Juniata at 4 PM.
