Softball Splits Doubleheader with Shenandoah

ARLINGTON, VA -- On this beautiful and sunny day, Marymount softball played a home doubleheader against Shenandoah University. In an exciting first game, the Saints claimed the victory 8-6 but a slower nightcap ended in a loss, 3-0. 

GAME ONE
  • The Saints tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the second with a ground out to second base that allowed Kaylynn Johnson to score. In the next play, Jaclyn Burch hit a home run, bringing in three more runs for the Saints.
  • The Hornets acquired two more runs in the top of the fourth, putting the score at 6-4.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Kammie Brown singled to center field, bringing Bailey Demusz home. 
  • Also in this inning, Johnson doubled to left field with bases loaded, adding three RBI and taking the lead with 8-6. 
  • Shanyn Burch pitched a total of 4.0 innings, putting up two strikeouts and giving up zero earned runs after facing 13 batters.
GAME TWO
  • The Saints struggled in the night cap, unable to attain any runs in this game while the Hornets totaled three in the top of the third inning.
  • Despite not having any runs, Marymount totaled six hits. Johnson, Mannion, Atkins, Yardis and J. Burch hit singles while Johnson also hit one double.
  • Kaylee Atkins pitched for a total of 4.0 innings, she put up four strikeouts and zero earned runs after facing 18 batters.
UP NEXT
  • On Saturday, Marymount will travel to Immaculata University for their first conference matches of the season. This doubleheader will take place at 12 PM and 2 PM.
  • The following Saturday, the Saints will play at home in a doubleheader against Neumann University at 12 PM and 2 PM.
