Softball Finds Success at Fastpitch Dreams

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Marymount Softball ended up playing Rochester University and Rosemont College Thursday evening after numerous schedule alterations. Having never played either school before, the Saints came out on top with a 9-4 win against Rochester and a 5-2 win against Rosemont. 

GAME ONE
  • The Saints beat the Warriors to the board in the first inning as Kaylynn Johnson tripled to right field, bringing Jenna Jew home.
  • The Warriors picked up three runs in the second inning, putting the score at 3-1.
  • In the fourth inning, the Saints acquired three more runs following a single to right field from Kaylee Atkins, a double to right field from Shanyn Burch, and a ground out to second base from Bailey Demusz. The Saints now lead 4-3.
  • The fifth inning housed more action as the Saints added four more runs. Atkins singled to left field for an RBI, S. Burch also singled to left field for 2 RBI and Demusz doubled to right field for their fourth run of the inning. The score stands at 8-4 going into both the sixth and seventh innings.
  • The Saints claimed the win in the seventh as Johnson stole home to pick up their ninth and final run of the game.
GAME TWO
  • The Saints broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning. Samantha Richtol and Ashleigh Mannion both singled, each bringing in two runs. The Saints lead 4-0 going into the fifth inning.
  • The Ravens grabbed their first run in the fifth inning, the score now sits at 4-1.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Saints snatch their fifth and final run of the game from Jaclyn Burch reaching first on a fielder's choice, allowing Shanyn Burch to score. 
  • Bailey Demusz pitched a total of 6.0 innings, putting up three strikeouts and only one earned run after facing 24 batters.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints play a doubleheader at Methodist University on Friday, March 8 at 2 PM and 4 PM in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
  • On Sunday, March 10 they will travel to Newport News, Virginia to face Christopher Newport University in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 PM.
