NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA -- Marymount softball traveled to Newport News on Sunday afternoon to play Christopher Newport University in a doubleheader. After a long and breezy afternoon, the Saints fell short 11-0 after five innings for both games. 

GAME ONE

• Struggling to keep up with the Captains, the Saints were unable to score any runs. Meanwhile, the Captains gained two in the first inning, three in the third, and six in the fourth to put the score at 11-0.
• The Saints were unable to acquire any hits in this game. Baserunnning includes a hit by pitch to Jenna Jew.
• Bailey Demusz pitched a total of 3.0 innings with one strikeout and zero earned runs after facing 16 batters.

GAME TWO

• In a similar outcome to the first game, the Saints were also unable to score any runs against the Captains. The score ended at another 11-0 after the Captains put up six runs in the first inning, two in the third, and three in the fourth.
• Unlike the first game, the Saints totaled three hits with singles from Samantha Richtol, Shanyn Burch, and Kammie Brown. 
• S. Burch pitched a total of 4.0 innings, facing 27 batters and giving up nine earned runs. 

• On Saturday, the Saints will travel to Immaculata, Pa. to play in a doubleheader with Immaculata University for their first conference match of the season. The games will take place at 12 PM and 2 PM.
• The following Saturday, the Saints will host Neumann University at Barcroft Park at 12 PM and 2 PM. This will be their second conference match for the 2024 season.
