Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Struggles at Last Day of Cal-Lu-Fornia

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA -- Marymount men's volleyball faced University of California, Santa Cruz and California Lutheran University on Saturday evening. Unfortunately falling short in both matches, 3-2 and 3-0, respectively, the Saints finished this weekend with one win and three losses.

GAME ONE
  • Esteban Jauregui totaled 11 kills.
  • Mason Moore had seven blocks for this match. Luke Pogue was close behind with six.
  • Diego Pena contributed with 22 assists.
  • Devon Robinson defended the back row with 12 digs.
  • After falling short in the first set, the Saints claimed the next two, leading 2-1 going into the fourth frame. With strong kills from Robinson and Will Wright, the Saints couldn't get ahead of the Banana Slugs and the frame ended 25-19.
  • In the decision set, Pena and Crowder had strong assists to bring home kills from Wright and Robinson. This tightly contested match ended in favor of the Banana Slugs 15-8.
GAME TWO
  • Luke Morris and Diego Pena tied with a total of seven kills. Morris also added eight digs.
  • Evan Cao contributed with 32 assists.
  • Pena and Gavin Poe defended the net with two blocks each.
  • In a quick 3-0 sweep, the Saints brought the power in the first frame with kills from Morris and Nickolas Blose. Tied at 25-25, the set was pushed beyond its limit after a kill from Moore to bring it to 27-27. Unfortunately, the Saints were unable to defend the final two points.
  • Despite their strong start, the Saints fell short in the next two frames 25-12 and 25-23. 
UP NEXT
  • On Wednesday, the Saints will travel to Ashland, Virginia to play Randolph-Macon College in their third conference match this season.
  • The Saints won't play again until Friday, March 22nd for another conference match. This one will be facing Rutgers-Newark at home.
