Men's Basketball Bounces Back Against Cabrini

ARLINGTON, Va. - After a pair of tough setbacks, the Saints got back to their winning ways, taking down the Cavaliers of Cabrini University Wednesday evening in front of their home crowd by a final score of 74-59.

Marymount utilized a strong second half to move to 14-8 overall on the season, 7-2 in Atlantic East play. 

NOTABLE
  • Marcus Stubbs led the way for the Saints, leading both teams in the scoring category with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. The senior added seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. He is now just 26 points away from joining the illustrious 1,000 point club as a Saint.
  • CJ Highsmith Jr. notched 12 points on the night, adding eight rebounds and a block to his credit. 
  • Reuben McEachern had 10 points in the win, adding four assists and three boards. 
  • Off of the bench, Isaac Harris had 10 with four boards, two assists, two steals, and a block. 
  • Marcus Beckett narrowly missed a double-double wit eight points and nine rebounds. 
  • Jack Bifano had nine rebounds on the night with six points and a block. 
  • After heading into the half down by a point, the Saints outscored Cabrini 43-27 in the final half of play. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints jumped up to a quick lead with a pair of scores from Stubbs and Highsmith. After the Cavaliers put themselves within one, Stubbs sank a three to push the momentum.
  • A three-point play from Stubbs gave the Saints a four point advantage with just over 10 minutes left to play. 
  • Cabrini jumped out to a six point lead with under a a minute left to play, but back-to-back scores from Hockenberry and Stubbs put Marymount within one heading to the locker room. 
  • With the Cavaliers trying to hold onto their lead, Marymount got back into the advantage with a layup from Highsmith Jr. to put the score at 41-39.
  • An 11-point run, capped off by a breakaway dunk from Highsmith Jr. gave the Saints the cushion they were looking for looking at just over 10 minutes left in the contest. 
  • A fast break from McEachern was the final stab from the Saints, finishing out the win to continue improving in AEC action.
UP NEXT
  • Marymount hits the road this weekend, heading to Gwynedd Mercy to take on the Griffins on Saturday.
  • Tip off is scheduled for 3 PM.
  • They will follow up with another road contest next Wednesday at Neumann.
