Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops One and Ties One at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, MD. - Marymount softball traveled to Washington College this afternoon for a doubleheader. They dropped the first game 10-6 and the second ended after 5 innings due to darkness with a tied score of 2-2. 

GAME ONE
  • The Saints placed themselves on the scoreboard in the top of the 2nd inning with a home run to left field from Kaylee Atkins. 
  • In the 4th inning, Bailey Demusz singled through the left side, allowing Ashleigh Mannion to advance to third, and Shanyn Burch to score, putting the Saints at a 4 run deficit.
  • Continuing their momentum in the 5th inning, Kaylynn Johnson homered to left field with Brown on base to gain two more runs. 
  • Later that frame, Atkins hit her second home run of the game, putting the Saints on the board with 6 runs at the end of the 5th inning, just two behind Washington.
  • In the circle, Bailey Desmusz threw 3.1 innings, totaling 5 shut outs and giving up 8 earned runs.
GAME TWO
  • A slower nightcap started out with Atkins singling through the left side and advancing to 2nd on an error from Washington. Hernandez, who was on third, scored. This put the Saints ahead of the Shorewomen for the first time today.
  • In the top of the 2nd, Jaclyn Burch homered to left field, tacking on another run for the Saints, resulting in a score of 2-0 going into the 3rd. 
  • The 4th and 5th innings were advantageous for the Shorewomen as they gained two runs to tie the game 2-2. Ending the game short after the 5th inning due to darkness, the score was settled as a tie.
  • Kaylee Atkins pitched for 3.2 innings while only allowing 1 earned run. 
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will travel to Grantham, Pa. on Friday to face Messiah University at Starry Softball Field. The games will be held at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.
  • Next week, they will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for Fastpitch Dreams in which they will play Saint Elizabeth, Misericordia, King's College and Penn State Harrisburg over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday. 
  • They will end the week with a doubleheader at Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C.
