Baseball Sweeps Opening Day Doubleheader Over Hampden-Sydney

TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball opened up a day late, playing two with the Tigers of Hamden-Sydney on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints took both legs of the doubleheader, starting off the season with a quick 2-0 record in front of the home crowd at Capital One Park.

GAME ONE NOTABLE
  • Fifth-year Jordan Dickson knocked a pair in during the first contest of the day, notching an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, which turned out to be the insurance needed for the Saints.
  • Owen Mead put up his first save of the season, pitching the final three frame with a strikeout and allowing just one earned run.
  • Ryan Cuadros had two RBI in the win with a run scored for the Saints.
  • Jonathan McMath and Kevin Knoess each had a run driven in, with McMath's coming from an RBI single in the opening frame. 
  • Robert Moffett had an RBI and a run scored in the game. 
  • Andrew Schaeb earned his first win on the mount, going 2.0 innings of relief.
GAME TWO NOTABLE
  • Moffett posted two RBI in his pinch-hit appearance, knocking a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Saints some needed late-inning cushion.
  • Parker Casselberry had a strong outing out of the pen in his first appearance of the season, going 3.0 innings with six strikeouts while allowing just one earned run.
  • Schaeb went 3-for-5 with a triple, driving in a run and scoring twice. 
  • Bobby Leitzel had two hits, an RBI, and a run score in the game two win.
  • Cuadros knocked a triple with an RBI and a run scored. 
  • Alec Reilly took advantage of his pinch-hit opportunity, knocking an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning. 
  • Ryan Wright had a hit and a run scored.
  • The Saints were running, collecting 12 stolen bags between both games. 
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will be back at Capital One Park next weekend, taking on Lycoming in a three-game stint.
  • Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at 2 PM.
  • Sunday will be a single game with first pitch set for 12 PM.
