NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Marymount men's basketball put up a fight against #18 Christopher Newport University on the road Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
With the Captains pulling away in the second half, the Saints now sit at 5-3 on the season.
NOTABLE
- Isaac Harris continued to lead the way for the Saints, dropping a career-high 25 points in the well-fought loss, going 8-14 from the floor. The junior added seven rebounds with an assist and steal to his line.
- Marcus Stubbs put up 16, going 2 of 3 from beyond the arc, with three rebounds.
- Miles Phillips dropped 10 on the night with three assists and rebounds apiece.
- Reuben McEachern led the Saints in the assists category with five, adding seven points in the affair.
- The Saints missed just one free throw in the first half, going 18-19 from the charity stripe.
- As a team, MU shot 40% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount got on the board first in the game, with Harris driving down the lane to open the scoring for both teams. Continuing on with the strong showing, the Saints took an 11-10 lead with a free throw from Harris with around 15 minutes left to go in the first half.
- A three-pointer out of the hands of Stubbs put the deficit at just one heading into halftime, shaping up for a showdown in the second half of action.
- MU continued to trail closely to start the second half, looking for the momentum shift to change the lead. A jumper inside of the arc from Harris put the Saints within four with just over 13 minutes left.
- The final 10 minutes of the contest pushed the Captains over the hump, ultimately using a series of runs to take the game down the stretch.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will stay on the road this week, heading to Muhlenberg this upcoming Saturday for a 3 PM tip off.
- They will compete in the Tom McKavitt Classic, hosted by Catholic University, between December 18 and 19.
