WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Marymount men's basketball fell in the consolation round of the Tom McKavitt Classic against hosting #24 Catholic on Thursday afternoon to round out 2024.
With the loss, the Saints move to 6-5 on the season ahead of Atlantic East play.
NOTABLE
- Ronier Peters highlighted the contest for the Saints, dropping 10 points with six rebounds and an assists.
- Marcus Stubbs was the other double-digit scorer on the day, securing 10 points alongside a rebound and two steals.
- Anthoney McClary had seven off of the bench for Marymount.
- David King had five points and three rebounds to his credit.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Catholic got out to a quick 4-0 lead on their home court, but a basket from Stubbs and a free throw from Peters cut into the early lead.
- Down by eight, Stubbs and Miles Phillips sank back-to-back three-pointers to put Marymount within two with just over 14 minutes left in the first half.
- Catholic found themselves with a 13-point lead, but with a 9-2 run, capped off by a last-minute jumper from Reuben McEachern, closed the gap to six heading into the half.
- The Cardinals opened the second half with a powerful run to put the Saints behind the eight ball again. Stubbs sank a three at the 13:28 mark to cut the deficit down to 11, hoping to spark life.
- Catholic continued to hold momentum down the stretch, ultimately giving the Saints their fifth loss on the season.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will play next in the new year, opening up Atlantic East play on the road at Immaculata on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3 PM.
- They will stay on the road for a bit, coming back home Saturday, Jan. 18 for an AEC match up with Marywood at 4 PM.
