CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Marymount women's basketball picked up a win on the road on Saturday at Washington College (Md.), 46-42.
Highlighted by another strong day from
Samantha Bulik, the Saints move to 2-8 on the season ahead of a break for the holidays.
NOTABLE
- Bulik posted a game-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, 3-5 from three-point range. She added five rebounds to her line.
- Ella Morrison was one rebound off of a double-double, notching 10 points on the afternoon with nine rebounds, adding four assists.
- Ava Achtyl posted five points with three rebounds.
- Cara Vollmer had seven points off of the bench for the Saints.
- Marymount held Washington to single-digit points in the second and third quarters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start on the offensive end for both teams, Morrison lit the spark with a three to give Marymount a two-point lead with under six minutes left in the first quarter.
- Washington went on a run down the stretch to put Marymount in a hole, finishing off the first quarter of action with a 15-8 score in favor of the Shorewomen.
- Morrison got the offense moving for the Saints to start the second quarter after Jaylah Thompson found her with an open lane to cut into the deficit.
- A jumper inside of the arc from Bulik evened up the contest with just over three minutes left in the half.
- A trio of free throws at the last minute sent Marymount into the locker room down by three.
- Back-and-forth to start the second half, Catie Kolwey gave the Saints the lead again, 26-25, with a good jumper off the pass from Morrison.
- A three from Vollmer gave MU the lead again, as they continued to battle. A pair of good free throws from Morrison put the Saints up by three heading into the fourth and final quarter.
- After trading shots to open the fourth, Achtyl sank a jump shot to give Marymount a five-point lead.
- After Washington evened up the tally with just over five minutes left of play, Vollmer sank another three to give Marymount momentum.
- The Sainnts held onto the lead down the final stretch to get themselves back in the win column.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will be back in action at the turn of the year, opening up conference action with Immaculata on the road Saturday, Jan. 4th with tip off set for 1 PM.
- They will be back at home on Wednesday, Jan. 8, hosting CNU for non-conference action at 6 PM.
