ASHLAND, Va. -- Marymount women's basketball traveled south to take on Randolph-Macon in early season, non-conference action.
Falling 71-53, the Saints move to 2-6 on the season.
NOTABLE
- Samantha Bulik reached new heights in the single-game scoring category. Dropping 23 on the night on 8-13 shooting from the field, 4-7 from beyond the arc, the senior added five rebounds and four steals to her line.
- Ava Achtyl had seven on the night with four rebounds.
- Kelly Ceroll had six with a rebound and a block.Â
- Kaylah Barr had four with a rebound and an assist.
- Cara Vollmer shot 50% from three-point range, notching six points with an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Barr drove down the lane to put the first points of the day on the board to give Marymount a quick lead,
- Duking it out in the first quarter, a jumper from Achtyl put the Saints within six heading into the second quarter of action.
- Randolph-Macon pushed themselves out to a 15-point lead before a layup from Catie Kolwey and a three from Vollmer put the deficit down to 10.
- One more score from the Saints off the hands of Jaylah Thompson gave the Saints life heading into the locker room, down by just eight.
- The Yellow Jackets jumped back out to a double-digit lead to start off the second half, but a layup from Bulik put the Saints back on the board.
- One more layup from Achtyl in the third quarter gave the Saints some life, looking for a fourth quarter comeback.
- The two teams traded shots in the fourth, but R-MC kept answering to keep the lead and ultimately take the game from MU.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will head to #6 Washington and Lee Sunday, Dec. 1 for a 2 PM tip off.
- They will then head to Salisbury on Saturday, Dec. 7 for a 1 PM tip off after the break.
