ARLINGTON, Va. -- In a battle of crosstown rivals receiving votes on the national poll, the home crowd were treated with a treat as Marymount men's basketball mounted a second half comeback that fell just short in an exciting night in Converse Family Fieldhouse.
Outscoring the Cardinals of Catholic 41-28 in the second half, the Saints couldn't quite overcome a stale first half to pick up their second loss of the season.
NOTABLE
- Miles Phillips dropped a team-high 18 points alongside three rebounds and assists, adding a steal.
- Marcus Stubbs had 11 on the night with three boards and a pair of assists.
- Isaac Harris notched 11, as well, with three rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.
- Off of the bench, David King and Reuben McEachern each had 10. McEachern added five assists and four boards, with king having six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half momentum was mainly held by the Cardinals, getting out to as much as a 18-point lead down the stretch. A pair of free throws from Phillips put the Saints within 16 heading into the locker room.
- Catholic maintained the offensive momentum in the beginning of the second half, but Marymount began to turn the tides at the 15 minute mark.
- A three from Harris started to sway things in the right direction, with a pair of free throws later down the line putting Marymount within 10.
- A mid-range jumper from McEachern pushed the score within nine for the Saints.
- A three from Stubbs, followed by a layup from Phillips, pushed the Catholic lead down to six.
- With under a minute left in the game, The Saints put it within a point. After a pair of free throws from the Cardinals, Marymount pushed one last time, with a three for the tie from the hands of Phillips narrowly missing.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will hit the road this upcoming week, heading the CNU on Wednesday, Dec. 4 for a 7 PM tip off.
- They'll continue playing away on Saturday, heading to Muhlenberg for a 3 PM match up.
