ARLINGTON, Va. -- In a tight knit battle with #15 Gettysburg College, Marymount women's basketball fell in the championship round of the Pablo Coto Tournament Saturday night by a final tally of 62-47.
The Saints move to 2-5 on the season with the well-fought loss after hosting another successful turn on their home court.
NOTABLE
- Kaylah Barr earned All-Tournament Team for her efforts across the two-day event. In the championship, the first-year dropped 14 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor, adding five rebounds and an assist.
- Kelly Ceroll and Ava Achtyl each had eight on the night, with Ceroll adding six boards and a pair of assists and Achtl with four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
- Samantha Bulik had seven in the championship round alongside four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
- Off of the bench, Jaylah Thompson dropped eight with a pair of assists.Â
- As a team, the Saints shot 42.9% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount got out to a hot start, with back-to-back buckets from Ella Morrison and Barr to get them out to a quick 4-0 lead within the first minute of action.
- After a three from the Bullets, Ceroll answered with a tip in bucket to continue the momentum for the Saints.
- MU battled down the stretch of the first quarter, holding Gettysburg to 14 points.
- Ceroll opened the second quarter with a bucket, then the teams traded shots to keep Gettysburg up by two.Â
- Barr scored twice in a hurry to give Marymount an 18-to-16 lead with just under seven minutes left in the first half.
- With the Bullets up six, a three from Thompson cut into the lead, but one more layup with time winding down gave Gettysburg a 31-26 lead heading into the half.
- The teams continued to trade shots at each other to open the third quarter. A drive in the paint from Achtyl put Marymount within two with just over four minutes left in the third quarter.
- A three with two seconds on the clock for the Bullets gave them a six-point advantage into the final quarter.
- Gettysburg held onto the advantage through the final quarter of play to take the match up and the tournament.
