HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A late penalty kick stifled Marymount men's soccer's hopes of earning three crucial points on the road at Centenary on Saturday as the sides ended in a 1-1 tie.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount pushed the pace offensively from the jump with Jefferson Lopez Coreas putting the Saints on top in the 26th minute.
- After holding a 1-0 lead at halftime, the Saints continued to work to extend the lead but were stymied by the Centenary goalkeeper on multiple occasions.
- In the 89th minute, Centenary earned a penalty kick and drained it to draw even at 1-1.
- Neither team could create a chance in the final 90 seconds and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
- The chippy game saw a total of nine cards booked (four for Marymount, five for Centenary).
- Marymount held a 21-8 advantage in shots taken, but Centenary generated six corner kicks compared to five for MU.
- Five of the six matchups in this series have been decided by one goal, including two ties.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will remain on the road to face current No. 1 seed Neumann (5-0-0, 15 points) on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 PM. It is the regular-season finale for both teams.
- If Marymount wins, it would earn the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the Atlantic East playoffs.
- If Neumann wins or the match ends in a tie, the Knights would earn the No. 1 seed and MU would earn the No. 2 seed.
- Regardless of result, Marymount will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Time will be announced later.
