Women's Soccer Squares Up with the Squirrels for a 3-1 Win

Stanton, VA– Marymount played a hard-won game against Mary Baldwin, scoring 3 times in under 7 minutes to secure the 3-1 win.

This brings the Saints' record to 6-8-3. The Saints are still undefeated in conference play.

NOTABLE
  • Lajdel, Leila changed the pace of the game for the Saints by scoring the first goal for Marymount in the 72nd minute.
  • Carrillo-Torres, Daniela fed off of the momentum of the first goal to break the tie with the second goal for Marymount in the 73rd minute of the game.
  • Alvarado, Nicole secured the win for Marymount by sinking her penalty kick opportunity into the back of the net.
  • Marymount had 8 shots on goal compared to Mary Baldwin's 2 shots on goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints came out shooting from the start of the game with the first shot taking place in the 7th minute of the first half by Morris, Minnie followed by 2 more shots by Harkins, Breanna and Lajdel in under 4 minutes.
  • The Fighting Squirrels were the first to score with a goal in the 27th minute.
  • The Saints battled to stay in the game. The Saints defense denied all other goal opportunities with Mockenhaupt, Hannah saving the only other shot on goal of the game from Mary Baldwin.
  • Marymount fought hard in the second half, refusing to hand the game to Mary Baldwin.
  • The Saints' persistence paid off when Lajdel scored the first goal for the Saints in the 72nd minute quickly followed by a goal by Carrillo-Torres in the 73rd minute and a goal by Alvarado in the 76th minute to overtake the Fighting Squirrels and claim the win.
  • The game ended in a 3-1 comeback win for the Saints.

  • Next game the Saints will be celebrating Senior Day played at home on Saturday October 26. The game will be played against Centenary University at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, VA with a start time of 1pm
