ARLINGTON – It was a hard-fought battle, but Marymount men's soccer improved to 4-0 in conference play with a 3-2 home win over Marywood on Saturday.
NOTABLE
- After returning from injury 10 days ago, Merlin Torres scored a point for the third straight game.
- Against the Pacers, Torres perfectly struck and placed a shot off his left foot to the top-left corner from 30 yards out for his second career goal.
- Since dropping two straight matches at home to start the season, Marymount has been unbeaten, going 5-0-1 at Long Bridge Park since Sept. 11.
- Jefferson Lopez Coreas and Leonardo Torres also found the back of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount pushed forward from the jump as Torres scored his 15th goal of the season in the 10th minute after an assist by Erick Shoetter-Rojas.
- Marywood drew even with a penalty kick goal after a handball in the box in the 16th minute.
- Torres put the Saints back on top in the 24th minute with his beauty of a goal. Marymount's 2-1 advantage held until halftime.
- The Saints finally gained a little bit of breathing room in the 76th minute after a pair of passes from Leonardo Ochoa and Shoetter-Rojas found Lopez Coreas at the near post who finished for his seventh goal of the season.
- Not to be outdone, Marywood got one back less than 90 seconds later in a scrum at the net.
- The Saints withheld a strong push from the Pacers in the final stretch and held on for a 3-2 win.
- The physical contest saw Marymount pick up four yellow cards compared to one for Marywood. The Saints also recorded 19 fouls compared to 13 for the Pacers.
- Bayron Banegas recorded five saves to pick up another win in the net.

- Marymount will close out the regular season on the road, beginning with Centenary on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 PM.
