Men's Volleyball Picks up Two More Wins at Home

ARLINGTON, VA-- Marymount men's volleyball faced Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday evening at home. Following two tightly contested matches, the Saints picked up two more wins putting them at 5-0 for the season thus far, four of those, on their home court. 

NOTABLE
  • Against the Engineers, Diego Peña dominated the court both offensively with 12 kills and defensively with 12 digs.
  • Luke Pogue defended the net with a total of 6 blocks, 3 in each match. Against the Engineers, he hit at a .636 clip, the highest for the team.
  • Luke Morris totaled 6 service aces, 3 in each match.
  • Joseph Crowder totaled 54 assists for the day. 
  • In the match against the Falcons, Evan Cao contributed strongly with 11 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In their first match against MIT, the Saints and the Engineers went point for point with notable kills from Will Wright and Luke Pogue and two service aces from Luke Morris to take the set 25-20.
  • After taking control of the first set, the Saints swiftly claimed victory of the next two with effective assists from Joe Crowder, kills from Mason Moore and Diego Peña, and defensive efforts from Darvin Guan, 25-17 and 25-22. 
  • In the second match against, The Saints and the Falcons took the frame above 25 points with a kill from Devon Robinson and an error from Concordia to solidify the win 29-27.
  • Falling slightly short in the second frame 23-25, the Saints gained momentum in the third and fourth frames, searching after their hard earned win.
  • With a strong lead the entirety of the third frame, the Saints succeeded over the Falcons 25-19. The fourth frame looked similar as the Saints quickly gained a 6 point lead over CUW. A service ace from Diego Peña ended the frame 25-16, giving the Saints another home Victory, 3-1.
UP NEXT
  • On Wednesday, the Saints travel to Lancaster, Pa. to play Lancaster Bible College at 7 PM.
  • On Saturday, the 3rd they play their first conference match of the season against Roanoke College at 1 PM.
