ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount men's basketball took advantage of an overpowering first half to propel themselves over the Neumann Knights in a rematch of last year's AEC Championship game.
By a final tally of 69-59, the Saints stay undefeated in conference action at 6-0, now 12-6 overall on the season.
NOTABLE
- Wyatt Hockenberry led all scorers across both team coming off of the bench for the Saints. Dropping 19 total points on 50% shooting from beyond the arc, he added a pair of rebounds in the win.
- CJ Highsmith Jr. nearly recorded a double-double, putting 15 points on the board for MU with nine rebounds. he added three assists and two blocks.
- Montell Cooper had eight points on the night with four assists, rebounds, and steals.
- Marcus Beckett had eight points in the game with five rebounds and three assists.
- Marymount utilized their bench to its full advantage, outscoring Neumann's bench 33-to-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoring was scarce to start off the game, with the two teams holding up stout defense to hold the other down. A three-point play from Hockenberry evened up the tally with under 13 minutes left to play.
- A 10-0 run, capped off by a three from Beckett, gave the Saints a 10-point advantage with just over six minutes left to play.
- Marymount took a 32-21 lead into the half.
- The Saints led by as much as 18 to start off the second half of play, but Neumann continued to add pressure.
- MU held onto their lead down the stretch with timely offense and strong defense to secure the win.
UP NEXT
- The Saints play host this Saturday, bringing in the Marywood Pacers for a 4 PM tip off.
- Marymount will then play its final non-conference matchup of the season next Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7 PM.
