ARLINGTON, VA - Marymount men's volleyball hosted a tri-match today with Eastern University and Virginia Wesleyan University. The Saints dominated both matches, taking swift victories over the Eagles 3-0 and the Marlins, 3-0. 

NOTABLE

• In their first match against Eastern, Diego Peña led offensively with 7 kills. Esteban Jauregui followed close behind with 6 kills.
• Seth Richards had the highest hitting percentage for the Saints with a 1.00
• Leading defensively with 8 total digs was Darvin Guan. 
• Joe Crowder totaled 34 assists between the two matches.
• In their second match against Virginia Wesleyan, Luke Pogue totaled 6 kills and hit at a .750 clip, the highest team percentage for this match. He also totaled 5 blocks.
• Luke Morris added 5 service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Against the Eagles, the Saints came back from an early 4 point deficit and quickly gained a 6 point lead with numerous kills by Diego Peña.
• Continuing their momentum into the 2nd and 3rd frame, the Saints claimed victory with notable kills from Luke Morris and Will Wright and assists coming from Joe Crowder. Finishing the 2nd set with a score of 25-17 and  the 3rd, 25-16, the Saints took their second win of the 2024 season. 
• In their first ever match against the Marlins, as this is the program's first year having a men's volleyball team, the Saints acted fast to take the lead with service aces from Luke Morris and kills from Luke Pogue. The Saints took the first set 25-15.
• Keeping up the energy in the next two frames, the Saints worked fast to close out the match with assists from Joe Crowder and Evan Cao and blocks from Luke Pogue. Taking the match in another 3-0 win, the Saints defeated the Marlins and are now undefeated at 3-0 in the early 2024 season.

UP NEXT

• Friday, they will host two matches at Converse Family Fieldhouse, playing Massachussets Institute of Technology at 4 PM and Concordia University at 6:30 PM. 
• The following Wednesday, the Saints will hit the road to play Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the match will begin at 7 PM.
