OWING MILLS, MD-- Marymount men's volleyball faced Stevenson University tonight for their first match of the 2024 season. The tightly contested game went to five sets with the Saints claiming victory over the Mustangs, 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-10).

NOTABLE

• Diego Peña led the team offensively with a total of 20 kills. Will Wright was close behind with 15.
• Joe Crowder contributed with 46 assists.
• Luke Pogue defended the net with 4 total blocks, 1 of which being a solo block. Pogue also had the highest hitting percentage for the Saints with a .500.
• Darvin Guan led the team defensively with 11 total digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Falling slightly short in the first two sets, notable plays included multiple kills from Devon Robinson and Diego Peña. 
• Despite the rocky start, the Saints gained momentum over the Mustangs in the third and fourth frames, with numerous assists from Joe Crowder and kills from Will Wright. Stevenson pushed back but Marymount was able to stay ahead, taking the two sets to tie up the match, 25-21 and 26-24. 
• With their energy continuing, the Saints dominated the fifth frame by quickly gaining a 6 point lead early on with kills from Diego Peña, Will Wright and Devon Robinson. They claimed the victory over the mustangs with back to back kills to end the match with a score of 15-10.

UP NEXT

• The Saints will host a tri-match this Saturday facing Eastern University at 11 AM and Virginia Wesleyan University at 3 PM with the neutral match at 1 PM.
• Next Friday, they will host two matches at Converse Family Fieldhouse, playing Massachussets Institute of Technology at 4 PM and Concordia University at 6:30 PM.
