NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Chandler Eddleton put together a 28-point, 14-rebound double-double as Marymount pushed No. 5 Christopher Newport to the brink on Wednesday night before the Captains pulled away late to keep its 46-game home winning streak alive and prevail, 87-77.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Early in the second quarter, the Saints stretched their lead to five on a fastbreak bucket from Eddleton to make it 30-25 with 8:38 left in the half.
- A strong closing stretch for the Captains allowed CNU to take a 46-42 lead into the locker room.
- Throughout the third quarter, Marymount stayed within striking distance and got back within two on a trey from Symantha Shackelford (21 points) with 52 seconds left.
- In the final frame, a pair of free throws from Eddleton brought the Saints within one with 6:43 to play.
- The Captains finally pulled away on a 13-2 run to jump ahead 86-74 with 2:30 to go before eventually winning, 87-77.
- Marymount went 8-of-20 (40.0 percent) from beyond the arc but had some uncharacteristic struggles at the free-throw line, shooting just 11-of-20 (55.0 percent) tonight.
- The Saints held an 18-8 advantage in fast break points on the evening.
