LEXINGTON, Va. Marymount University's women volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the Washington and Lee University Invitational. The Saints took Susquehanna in a 3-0 decision but could not precede Southern Virginia with a 3-0 decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern Virginia came out strong in the first set with 12 kills against Marymount's 5.
- The Saints found their stride in the next two sets, with a kill by Kezia Francis late in the third set, but they ultimately fell short with a 25-22 decision in both sets.
- Against Susquehanna, the Saints racked up a .307 attack percentage against the River Hawk's .011.
- Marymount held a strong lead in the first two sets both by points and kills but the River Hawks came back in the third set, bringing the score from a 7 to a 4 point deficit late in the 3rd set.
- The Saints solidified the match win with a kill by Ryleigh Ward that brought set three to a close at 25-20.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will travel back to Lexington, Va. next weekend to finish out the W&L invitational with matches against Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee.
- The following weekend, Marymount will visit NYU to take on NYU on Friday, the 15thand Emerson and Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, the 16th.
