Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Outlasts Stevenson

ARLINGTON – On a rainy Sunday afternoon, Marymount men's soccer used some nifty finishes to come away with a solid 2-1 victory over a feisty Stevenson squad.

NOTABLE
  • Leonardo Torres found the back of the net for the sixth time this season.
  • Reece Ventura fired a shot from long range with time winding down in the first half to give the Saints a 1-0 lead at halftime.
  • Bayron Banegas had three saves on the day.
  • Marymount held a 22-12 advantage in shots taken and only recorded one booking, compared to five for the Mustangs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount had the first 10 shots of the game for either side as the Saints continued to work on offense.
  • After the Saints got a takeway deep in their own end with about 20 seconds left, Mu pushed the ball up field quickly.
  • With the keeper a little out of position, Ventura launched a shot with less than three seconds left that bounced off the keeper's gloves and into the net right before the horn sounded.
  • Early in the second half, Carlos Varona knocked a shot away at the end line to keep Stevenson off the board.
  • The Mustangs finally equalized in the 67th minute.
  • In the 76th minute, Jonathan Guevara pushed into the box and gave a short feed to Torres who fired a strong shot with his right foot that found the back of the net for the 2-1 advantage.
  • Marymount's defense held strong in the final 15 minutes to ice the victory.
HEAR FROM COACH KALIN
  • "What great awareness by Reece with short time to fo in the half to pop a shot from 35 yards and catch their keeper. I was really proud of our resilience and mental toughness today. There were some tense moments that we weathered and we stuck to our game plan on the attack and found the game-winner. Our guys off the bench made the difference today. This caps off a great week and now we go into a big match against Catholic on Wednesday."
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will host Catholic with Pope's Cup points on the line on Wednesday night at 8 PM following the women's match against Washington College at 6 PM.
