Women's Volleyball Claims Two Victories at Day One of Worthington Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Saints faced Arcadia and Utica on Friday at the first day of the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University. Claiming victories over the two teams in a 3-1 decision against Arcadia and a 3-0 decision against Utica. 

NOTABLE
  • In their first match, Kaitlyn Doyle racked up 24 kills, hitting at a clip of .340. 
  • Alexis Franklin totaled 54 assists in this match while also adding 32 assists in their second match, adding up to a total of 86 for the day. 
  • Eliza Freeman lead the team defensively with 17 digs.
  • In their second match against Utica, Maya Harris lead the team offensively with 15 kills. She also had 4 service aces this match.
  • Eliza Freeman had the highest hitting percentage across both teams with a 1.0. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In their match against Arcadia, the Saints started off slow but quickly gained momentum, coming back from a 6 point deficit to tie the game at 25-25 with two kills from Jada Griffith late in this frame. The Saints took the victory 28-26.
  • The Knights took the second frame, forcing the match into 4. In the 4th set, the Saints quickly took the lead with numerous kills from Kaitlyn Doyle, claiming the win with a score of 25-10.
  • Moving into their second match, Marymount kept up their pace with an immediate kill by Maya Harris. The Saints dominated the net, totaling 15 kills to take the set 25-17 against the Pioneers.
  • The Saints took the second set in stride, holding a strong lead the entire frame, they took the victory with a kill from Kaitlyn Doyle, ending the set 25-9. 
  • In the third set, the Pioneers kept the Saints on their toes as they went point for point. Ultimately coming out on top, Marymount claimed their second victory of the day with two back to back kills ending the match 25-20.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will face Catholic University and Gallaudet University on Saturday at 12pm and 2pm, respectively. 
  • Next Saturday, the Saints will travel back to Washington, D.C. to play the University of Scranton and Catholic University, again.
