BUENA VISTA, Va. – For the second straight night, Marymount men's soccer held a significant advantage in shots taken. But on Saturday night at Southern Virginia, the Saints found themselves on the losing end, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Knights.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount had six shots in the first 11 minutes of action.
- The Saints broke through for a 1-0 lead thanks to a penalty kick goal from Reece Ventura. The chance was set up by a Southern Virginia yellow card.
- The Knights equalized in the 41st minute and the two sides went into the half tied at 1-1.
- In the 61st minute, Southern Virginia was forced to play with 10 men after a red card.
- Despite the personnel disadvantage, Southern Virginia took the lead in the 69th minute as Benjamin Simister found the back of the net for the second time in the game.
- In the 74th minute, the Saints hit woodwork and had a shot saved on back-to-back attempts.
- Marymount drew two corner kicks in the final minutes but couldn't draw even.
- The Saints held a 21-6 advantage in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- Southern Virginia had four bookings compared to two for Marymount.
