Women's Lacrosse Keeps Offense High in AEC Win

ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's lacrosse hosted the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East action.

The Saints moved to 2-0 in conference play, taking down the AEC foe by a decisive score of 22-to-3.

Notable
  • Sophomore Arayla Garcia continued to power past her opponents in the draw, notching 10 draws in total on top of her two goal day. She has passed the 100 mark on the season, with 101 in total, putting her alone at third in program history in single season draw controls.
  • Off of the bench, first-year Jillian Blair put together a five-goal performance, a new game high in the early career for the Saint. 
  • Taylor Chepren was a force on the offense for the Saints, racking up seven total points on four goals and three assists. 
  • The graduate student, Emily Peters, put four in the net for the Saints, adding a ground ball. She currently sits at 128 goals in her career, good for third in the record book for goals in a career.
  • Riley Love put up three points on two goals and an assist, adding two ground balls. In her career, she has 51 total assists, good for fifth all-time. 
  • Hannah Smith had seven saves in the net for Marymount, improving her record to 9-4 on the season.
  • Ella Baker, Megan Edens, Kaleigh Dunham, Kaylee Heath, and Tess Valentino each added a goal in the win. 
How It Happened
  • The Saints came out swinging at the start of the game, with Chepren scoring twice to open up play to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • After a Griffins goal, Marymount would score four unanswered goals, capped off by an unassisted score from Blair, to take a 6-1 lead out of the first quarter.
  • MU outscored Gwynedd-Mercy 5-1 in the second quarter to take a 11-2 lead heading into halftime. 
  • It was all Marymount in the second half, outscoring the foe 11-1 to earn the win and improve their AEC record.

  • Marymount gets back to AEC action on Saturday, Apr. 15, traveling to Marywood for a noon game.
