Softball Recovers for Split at Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – After a tough loss to start the day, Marymount softball responded by handling Sweet Briar 8-1 to finish out the doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.    

NOTABLE
  • Kaylynn Johnson went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener.
  • Leila Hernandez went 3-for-5 in game two.
  • Ava Johns picked up her first career win after going 3.1 innings and not allowing an earned run.
GAME ONE
  • Marymount drew first blood after Johnson hit a two-RBI double in the top of the third inning.
  • Sweet Briar got a run back in the bottom of the fourth.
  • In the next inning, Sweet Briar scratched across four runs to jump ahead, 5-2.
  • Jaclyn Burch drove in two runs with a double in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-4.
  • The Vixens added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 8-4.
  • In Marymount's final at-bat, the Saints added two more runs but still fell, 8-6. 
GAME TWO
  • Samantha Cinotti doubled to bring home Hernandez in the top of the third.
  • Kaylee Atkins brought Cinotti home with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
  • Sweet Briar scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the frame.
  • Johnson hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-1.
  • The bats came alive in the top of the seventh with doubles from Caitlyn Oakland and Hernandez as the Saints made it an 8-1 final score.
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will remain on the road to take on Mary Washington on Wednesday, April 12 beginning at 3 PM.   
  • The Saints will not be back at Barcroft Park until Saturday, April 15 against Immaculata at 2:30 PM.
