Softball Falls Short at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Marymount softball just didn't have quite enough offense on Wednesday afternoon as the Saints dropped a pair of tight non-conference contests at Mary Washington.

NOTABLE
  • Jaclyn and Shanyn Burch faced off against their triplet sister, Caitlyn, who picked up the win in game one in the pitcher's circle.
  • Kaylynn Johnson had a pair of extra-base hits, hitting a double in game one and a solo home run in game two.
  • Kaylee Atkins and Bailey Demusz combined to throw 4.2 innings of scoreless relief in game two.

GAME ONE
  • After a scoreless first three innings, Marymount threatened in the top of the fourth.
  • After Leila Hernandez hit a single to left, she advanced all the way to third with one out after a stolen base and groundout.
  • Hernandez was stranded 60 feet from home after back-to-back groundouts to end the inning.
  • A combination of singles and errors allowed Mary Washington to plate three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.
  • The Eagles added another run in the fifth on an RBI infield single.
  • Johnson led off the seventh with a double to left and scored on an error to make it 4-1.
  • The Saints had runners on first and second, putting the tying run up to the plate, but was denied after a groundout to end the game.

GAME TWO
  • Johnson drilled her solo shot to left in the top of the first to give MU an early 1-0 advantage.
  • Mary Washington scored on an error in the bottom of the first to tie the ballgame up at 1-1.
  • The Eagles added another unearned run in the next inning to make it 2-1.
  • Marymount didn't get another hit until the seventh inning when Amanda Coates hit an infield single.
  • Sara Emig entered as a pinch-runner and was left on base after a popout to second base ended the game.
