Softball Sweeps Immaculata in Resumed Games

IMMACULATA, Pa. – In the resumption of a series that began on Saturday in Arlington, Marymount softball picked up two exciting victories over Immaculata on Wednesday at the IU Softball Field.  

NOTABLE GAME ONE
  • Johnson's first home run of the day came in the first inning, a two-run shot to left field.
  • Sara Emig followed up with an RBI single to center field to make it 3-0.
  • Immaculata tied it up in the top of the third with three unearned runs.
  • Before the storm on Saturday, Marymount added two runs on back-to-back RBI singles from Kiernan and Caitlyn Oakland.
  • The game resumed at Immaculata this afternoon with the bases loaded and the Saints made the best of the situation by adding three more runs.
  • Immaculata added runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the deficit to 8-6.
  • Burch gave Marymount some insurance with a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Macs tied the game in the top of the seventh with a pair of RBI singles to send it to extra innings.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Johnson hit a walk-off two-run home run to center field to clinch the 11-9 win. 
GAME TWO
  • Immaculata got on the board first with three runs in the top of the second.
  • Kiernan hit an RBI double to left in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 3-1.
  • The Macs added two more runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 5-1.
  • After another RBI double from Kiernan, IU responded with a bases-loaded walk to take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
  • Gilroy hit her first career grand slam with one out to tie the game 6-6.
  • With two outs, Marymount scratched across three more runs to make it 9-6.
  • Marymount closed out the comeback victory with a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will travel to face Salisbury on Friday, April 21 at 2 PM.
  • Atlantic East play resumes on Saturday, April 22 at 12 PM on the road at Neumann.
  • Marymount will return to Barcroft Park for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 29 at 12 PM against Gwynedd Mercy.
