ASTON, Pa. – Marymount softball earned a hard-fought extra-innings victory to start the day on Saturday at Neumann before giving up two late runs in the second game of the day to settle for a doubleheader split.  

NOTABLE

• Shanyn Burch threw all nine innings in game one to pick up the victory. She allowed only six hits and three earned runs.
• Sheila Kiernan had two doubles on the day, including one that began the eventual game-winning rally in the ninth inning of game one.
• Bailey Demusz hit an RBI triple in game two.

GAME ONE

• Kiernan hit her first double of the day to right-center to bring home two runs and give Marymount an 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
• Neumann tied things right back up in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own.
• The Knights added two more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2.
• Samantha Cinotti drilled an RBI single to left-center to cut the deficit to one in the top of the sixth.
• An error on the next play allowed Leila Hernandez to score the tying run.
• In the top of the ninth, Kiernan's one-out double put a runner in scoring position.
• Ava Johns came on to pinch run and scored on an error the very next play to make it 5-4.
• Burch closed out the bottom of the ninth with a strikeout to end the game with the win. 

GAME TWO

• Both teams started out slow offensively before Marymount found some runs in the top of the fourth.
• Kaylee Atkins struck out swinging but advanced to first on a wild pitch to put runners on first and second for Demusz.
• Demusz then went the opposite way for a two-RBI triple to make it 2-0.
• Sara Emig followed up with an RBI single to right to push MU ahead, 3-0.
• Neumann quickly got two runs back in the bottom of the frame.
• Marymount held its lead until the bottom of the seventh.
• Neumann opened with back-to-back singles before finding some luck on balls in play.
• The tying run scored on an error before Neumann finished the game with a walk-off walk to win, 4-3.

UP NEXT

• The Saints will get some time off before making the short trip to face Gallaudet on Wednesday, April 26 beginning at 4 PM.
• Marymount will return to Barcroft Park for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 29 at 12 PM against Gwynedd Mercy.
