Softball Takes Two from Gallaudet in Record-Setting Performance

WASHINGTON – Marymount softball picked up some momentum with a pair of mercy-rule wins over Gallaudet on Wednesday evening. 

NOTABLE
  • The Saints set a new program record with 19 hits and tied the program record for runs with 17. Both marks happened in game two. 
  • Sheila Kiernan had six RBIs across both games and hit a home run in game one. 
  • Marymount hit three triples on the day.  
GAME ONE
  • Marymount started with two runs in the top of the first, including one on an RBI single by Nicole Gilroy
  • The Saints added three more in the top of the second. 
  • MU picked up another unearned run in the top of the third. 
  • Kiernan hit a two-run home run to left field in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 8-0. 
  • Leila Hernandez added an RBI single and Samantha Cinotti knocked an RBI triple to extend the lead to 10-0. 
  • Gallaudet picked up one run in the bottom of the frame but MU closed out the game for a 10-1 victory.  
GAME TWO
  • Marymount kept the train rolling with seven runs in the top of the first, including an RBI double from Kaylee Atkins and an RBI triple from Kammie Brown.
  • After Gallaudet got two back in the bottom of the second, Marymount responded with five runs in the top of the third, including RBI singles from Nicole Gilroy and Atkins. 
  • Marymount closed out its scoring with five more runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by RBI singles from Caitlyn Oakland and Kiernan. 
  • Gallaudet got four runs back in the bottom of the fifth, but MU closed out the game with a 17-6 win. 
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will return to Barcroft Park for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 27 at 3 PM against Gwynedd Mercy. 
  • The Saints will close out the regular season on the road Sunday against Catholic.
