ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount men's lacrosse scored the first goal of the game and hung tough with Atlantic East leader Cabrini through three quarters on Saturday, but a strong final quarter pushed the Cavaliers to a 19-6 victory.
NOTABLE
- Jack Williams scored three goals and added an assist. He now has 77 career assists, breaking the program record held by Paul Schiavone since 1996.
- It is the fourth program record set by Williams this season. He already holds the crown for most assists in a season (45 and counting) and set single-game records for assists (12) and points (13) against Centenary earlier this season.
- Bryan Maguire added a goal and an assist on Saturday.
- Marymount pressured Cabrini into going just 13-of-20 on clear attempts.
- Nick Mort had 21 saves and grabbed four ground balls in the net.
- The game started early in an effort to avoid the impending storm and was then delayed for nearly two hours midway through the third quarter due to lightning in the area.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount opened up the scoring with a tally from Jack Williams with 11:14 left in the first quarter.
- Cabrini responded with a goal 21 seconds later and scored four more in the first quarter to hold a 5-1 lead.
- Williams added two more goals, including a man-up goal, to cut the deficit to 6-3 with 8:38 remaining in the second quarter.
- The Cavaliers closed with three straight goals to head into halftime leading 9-3.
- The two sides traded goals early in the third quarter before lightning forced a weather delay with 6:23 remaining in the period. Cabrini was leading 10-4 at the time.
- Cabrini scored nine of the final 11 goals after play resumed and finished with a 19-6 win.
