SCRANTON, Pa. - Baseball finished out the three-game sweep of Marywood on Saturday, holding strong at the top of the Atlantic East.
With the two wins, the Saints improve their records to 16-12 overall, 7-2 in AEC action.
Notable
- Ryan Maylie knocked four hits on the day with two doubles, driving in an RBI and scoring three runs across both games.
- Andrew Schaeb notched the complete game performance in game one, going 7.0 innings with 11 strikeouts, a season high, while allowing just one earned run. His record now sits at 4-1 on the mound.
- Blake Doggett went 2-of-4 in game two with a pair of RBI and a run scored.
- Bobby Leitzel had four hits across the day with a double and a triple. He added an RBI with four runs scored out of the leadoff spot.Â
- Braeden Lencz earned his second win of the season in the game two start, with Kyle Lewis earning his first save of the year, going 2.0 innings without allowing a hit and striking out four to close out game two and earn the sweep.
How It Happened
Game One
- The Saints got off to a hot start, scoring three in the top of the first via RBI hits from Maylie and Chad Singleton to take the early lead.
- The bats went quiet on both sides after the Pacers scored one in the bottom of the first, with the next Marymount strike coming in the top of the fifth from a sacrifice fly off the bat of Doggett.
- Marymount pushed two more across in the top of the seventh, with Schaeb setting Marywood down in order in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win and close the game.Â
Game Two
- The starters matched scoreless frames through the first two innings before the Saints notched their first two on the board in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly from Ryan Cuadros, scoring Leitzel who tripled to start the frame, and an RBI single from Doggett.
- Marywood scored two in the bottom of the third to tie the game up, but Marymount came back swinging, putting two across home plate in the top of the fourth to retake the lead.
- Marymount scored two more in the top of the fifth after RBI singles from Doggett and Jordan Dickson.Â
- The Pacers put three across the plate in the bottom of the seventh to inch in on the Marymount lead.
- In the top of the ninth, the Saints scored thrice with an RBI single from Letizel and a pinch-hit two-RBI single from Cam Clarkson.
