SCRANTON, Pa. - Saints baseball opened up their three-game series with the Marywood Pacers on Friday evening, taking game one in comeback fashion, scoring two in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
The AEC victory improved the Saints overall record to 14-12, 5-2 in Atlantic East action.
Notable
- Ryan Cuadros was the star in the affair, knocking in five total RBI on four hits with a double and his third home run of the season.
- Ryan Maylie had two hits on the day with a double and an RBI.
- Third baseman Jimmy Baker knocked in a run on a 3-for-6 day at the plate.
- Out of the designated hitter spot, Blake Doggett drove in a pair of RBI.
- Jordan Dickson earned the win on the mound, throwing a perfect bottom of the ninth to seal the win with a strikeout. He added a hit and two runs scored at the plate.
- Bobby Leitzel, Bryce Smith, and Robert Moffett each had two hits.
- The Saints 18 hits in the contest are the most in a single game this season.
How It Happened
- The Saints got on the board quickly in the game, after Leitzel led off with a double and then was quickly scored by a Cuadros single to put MU up 1-0.
- Marywood put one across in the bottom frame of the first to tie it up, before the Saints pushed three across the plate in the top of the third via RBI hits from Doggett and Moffett.
- The Pacers scored five in the bottom of the third to go ahead 6-4, but it would be short-lived as Cuadros sent a shot down the left field line to tie up the game 6-6.
- Marywood scored two in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to take a three-run lead, 9-6, heading into the latter third.
- Down 10-7 in the top of the eighth, the Saints scored three to tie it up 10-10.
- The Pacers too the lead again in the bottom of the eighth, sending the Saints into their final at-bat needing at least one.
- After a Dickson single and a Leitzel walk, the Saints turned again to Cuadros, who sent a double to left, scoring both runners and retaking the lead.
- Dickson shut the door in the bottom of the ninth, earning his second win of the season on the mound, and giving the Saints the gutted-out win.
