BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Marymount women's lacrosse traveled south for a midweek contest against the Eagles of Bridgewater College Thursday evening.
A tight matchup throughout, the Saints narrowly fell 18-to-16, putting their record at 3-2 on the early season.
Notable
- Arayla Garcia notched four goals on the night for four points. The sophomore added 12 draw controls and a caused turnover.
- Emily Peters had three goals and two assists, adding two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
- Kaleigh Dunham and Ella Baker each put three in the net for the Saints. Dunham added two assists, with Baker adding one.
- Riley Love had seven ground balls with a goal and two assists.
How It Happened
- The first quarter was an explosion of offense from both teams. After falling by a goal, Garcia put the first in the net for the Saints off a free position shot.
- With the Eagles taking the lead again, it was Garcia again nabbing the ground ball and driving to the net, sinking the goal to even up the tally 2-2.
- At the end of the first quarter, the Eagles held the advantage 5-to-3.
- Down 6-3, the Saints mounted the comeback with three unanswered scores, capped off by a goal from Dunham at the 9:35 mark.
- Bridgewater scored the final two goals of the half to send the game into intermission with a 10-to-9 lead.
- Garcia won the draw control out of the gate of the second half, with Baker finding a lane and evening up the score 10-10.
- Peters sank a free position goal in the final seconds of the third quarter to hang tight at 15-to-13 in favor of the Eagles heading into the fourth and final quarter.
- The Saints held tight down the stretch of the fourth quarter, but the Eagles held onto the lead, giving the Saints the well-fought loss.
