Women's Lacrosse Shoots Past Marlins Ahead of Florida Trip

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Marymount women's lacrosse team hosted the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday in a non-conference matchup before their Spring Break trip next week.

The Saints will head into the trip with some momentum, as they moved to 4-2 on the year with an 18-to-3 romp of the Marlins.

Notable
  • Taylor Chepren led the Saints with four goals on the day, going a perfect 2-of-2 from free position, alongside an assist, ground ball, and caused turnover.
  • Emily Peters collected her 200th draw control of her career in the contest. 
  • Riley Love put up three goals in the win with an assist, adding a ground ball. 
  • Arayla Garcia notched three goals with three draw controls and a caused turnover. 
  • Tess Valentino sank her first career goal in the win, finishing the day with two goals scored. 
  • Natalia Ortiz also put her first career goal in the net for the Saints. 
  • Kaleigh Dunham put up three goals for the Saints in the win.
  • Hannah Smith allowed only three goals, collecting five saves and three ground balls.
How It Happened
  • The Marlins were the first to score in the affair, sinking a goal at the 13:07 mark to put the Saints behind the eight ball early.
  • Four unanswered goals, capped off by Valentino finding Garcia to close out the first quarter scoring, put MU up 4-1. 
  • It was Virginia Wesleyan again to open up the second quarter, but the Saints didn't falter as they would close out the half with four more unanswered goals to take a commanding 8-to-2 lead into the half. 
  • Marymount came out of the half hot, with Megan Edens finding Garcia to open up the second half scoring. 
  • MU scored four more times in the third quarter to go into the finale up 13-3.
  • The Saints didn't allow a goal in the fourth quarter, sinking five of their own, to close out the win by its final tally of 18-3.

  • Marymount will open up play against Westfield State University on Tuesday at 10 AM.
