WINCHESTER, Va. – In a makeup of a postponed game from last month, Marymount softball scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a walk-off 3-2 win over Shenandoah on Thursday evening.

NOTABLE

• Kaylee Atkins hit a walk-off double to bring home Sheila Kiernan. It was one of two hits on the day for Atkins.
• Shanyn Burch threw all eight innings, only surrendering six hits and one earned run.
• Sara Emig also had two hits on the day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Marymount picked up a few baserunners in the early innings but didn't plate a run until the fourth inning.
• After Atkins hit an infield single, Nicole Gilroy came on as a pinch runner and stole second base.
• Gilroy came around to score on an infield single from Kammie Brown to make it 1-0.
• Shenandoah tied the game with a home run in the top of the sixth.
• With the international tiebreaker in effect to start the eighth inning, Shenandoah quickly scored on an RBI single to make it 2-1.
• With Samantha Cinotti placed on second, Emig reached first on a throwing error that allowed the tying run to score with no outs.
• After Kiernan reached on another throwing error, Atkins smoked a double to right-center that brought home the game-winning run.

UP NEXT

• Marymount will host back-to-back doubleheaders next week at Barcroft Park.
• The Saints welcome Bridgewater to Barcroft on Wednesday, March 15 at 12 PM before Messiah comes to town on Thursday, March 16 at 12 PM.
