Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Overcomes Hood in Fourth Quarter

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Marymount women's lacrosse took on the Blazers of Hood College at home on Saturday afternoon.

A final, fourth quarter goal and stellar defense down the stretch was the difference, sending the Saints to 3-1 on the young season with the 10-to-9 victory.

Notable
  • Riley Love, Ella Baker, and Kaleigh Dunham each had two goals and an assist on the day. Baker added three ground balls to her line in the win.
  • Megan Edens, Emily Peters, and Abby Dunn each caused three turnovers in the game, with Peters and Edens adding a goal apiece. Dunn earned three draw controls.
  • Taylor Chepren had a goal and two assists, adding both a ground ball and a caused turnover.
  • Hannah Smith had nine saves on the day, putting up some key defense in the final minutes of play.
  • The Saints were 18-for-19 in clear attempts.
How It Happened
  • Marymount kicked off the offense in the contest to start the momentum. Chepren found an open look in the free position and scored the first goal of the day. Dunham found Peters later in the first quarter to give the Saints the early 2-0 lead.
  • With the score 2-1 in favor of MU, Arayla Garcia found Baker early in the second quarter to put the Saints up two in the second quarter.
  • Two goals from the Blazers tied up the game, but three unanswered goals from MU, with a final second driver from Edens, gave the Saints a three goal lead heading into the half.
  • Hood scored three in a row to open up the second half, evening up the tally.
  • A goal from Baker was quickly answered by two Blazer goals to send the game into the final quarter with Hood holding a slim, one goal advantage.
  • Unassisted goals from Love and Dunham gave the Saints a 9-to-8 lead.
  • After the Blazers evened up the game, one more push was what the Saints needed in the final minutes. They got just that, with Baker finding Love to put the Saints up by one with minutes to play.
  • The Blazers put offensive pressure on the Saints in the final minutes. After winning the draw control, Hood's attack was pushed away by a strong save from Smith, which led to the ultimate win by the Saints.
