TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball opened up play at Capital One Park on Friday afternoon, hosting the Centenary Cyclones in Atlantic East doubleheader action.
The Saints currently sit at 12-10 overall after the split, 3-2 in conference play.
Notable
- Bobby Leitzel continued to maintain a strong offensive presence at the top of the Marymount order, going 5-for-8 with five runs scored and two stolen bags across the day. He raised hit batting average to .370.
- Quincy Via went 3-for-4 in game two with two doubles and three RBI.
- Ryan Cuadros earned the win on the mound in the nightcap, pitching 6.0 innings out of the bullpen with four strikouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.84 on the season.
- Craig Sodano had two hits with a double in game two, knocking in a pair of RBI.
How It Happened
Game One
- The first three innings of game one saw a pitchers' duel unfolding, with Marymount starter David Muirhead being matched each frame by the Cyclones starter.
- The Saints broke through in the bottom of the fourth, after a Ryan Maylie single and a pair of walks loaded the bases and a run being walked in to give MU a 1-0 lead.
- Marymount tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth with some heads up baserunning and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Maylie.
- An eight-run top of the seventh for Centenary was the difference, leading to the Saints dropping game one of the day.
Game Two
- Centenary got on the board first in game two, pushing across a single run in the opening frame of the game to take the early 1-0 lead. They added another in the third to go up 2-0.
- Maylie came through for the Saints in the third, knocking a two-out, two-RBI double to tie up the game.
- Via cranked a two-out, two-RBI double off the wall in the fourth to give the Saints the lead.
- After putting another on the board in the fifth, Sodano highlighted the sixth with a double, driving in a pair of runs.
- Via put another double off the wall in the bottom of the seventh, driving in another Saints run.
- Two more in the bottom of the eighth would give the contest its final score of 11-3, giving the Saints the needed win.
