Baseball Takes Series From Centenary with Saturday Win

TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball closed out their three-game set with Centenary on Saturday, taking the rubber match by a final tally of 8-7. 

The Saints currently sit with an overall record of 13-10, improving to 4-2 in AEC action. 

Notable
  • Ryan Maylie put was the main run producer for the Saints in the win, knocking in four RBI across the day with his first homer on the season, the first home run in Capital One Park history.
  • Blake Doggett had a double with two RBI.
  • Robert Moffett went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. 
  • Jordan Dickson had two hits with an RBI and a run scored.
  • First-year Owen Mead earned his first save of his career, going 3.2 innings out of the pen with two strikeouts. 
  • Andrew Schaeb earned the win on the mound to improve to 3-1 on the season, racking up six K's in the process.
How It Happened
  • The first two innings saw the starters for both teams setting down their opponents, sending the game into the third scoreless.
  • The Cyclones pushed across three in the top of the third inning to take the early lead.
  • Marymount answered in the bottom half of the third to take the lead, putting up five runs highlighted a three-RBI single from Maylie and an RBI double from Doggett. 
  • After a shutdown inning from Schaeb in the top of the fourth, the Saints tacked on two more in the bottom frame via an RBI single from Dickson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bobby Leitzel.
  • The teams traded single runs in both frames of the fifth, with Maylie knocking his blast in the Saints half. 
  • Centenary put up three between the sixth and seventh innings, inching closer to the Saints lead, but Mead took control, setting down the Cyclones in the ninth to earn the save and the Marymount win.
Up Next
  • The Saints will hit the road next Thursday, traveling to Randolph-Macon for a non-conference matchup with the ODAC school.
  • After taking the weekend off, Marymount will head to Wilson College for another non-conference contest on Monday, Apr. 10 at 3 PM.
