Six-Run Final Frame Highlights Win over Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Marymount softball rallied from five runs down to score six runs in the top of the seventh inning to prevail over Lynchburg, 6-5, in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Hornets responded with a 9-1 win in game two to earn the split.

NOTABLE
  • Four Saints knocked doubles in game one.
  • Samantha Cinotti went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in game one.
  • Kaylynn Johnson went 3-for-3 with a home run in game two. She added two hits and an RBI in game one.
  • Kaylee Atkins earned the win in relief in game one with Shanyn Burch earning the save.
GAME ONE
  • Lynchburg got on the board first with a home run in the bottom of the second.
  • The Saints loaded the bases in the top of the third but left the bases juiced with two straight outs to end the threat.
  • The Hornets added one run in the fourth before building a 5-0 lead on three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
  • In the top of the seventh, Cinotti ripped a single through the left side to bring home Marymount's first two runs.
  • Burch hit an RBI double to left center to make it 5-3.
  • Johnson and Kammie Brown both hit RBI singles up the middle to tie the game at 5-5.
  • With two outs and the bases loaded, Caitlyn Oakland laced the go-ahead RBI single to left field to make it 6-5.
  • After Lynchburg put runners on first and second with one out, Burch came on in relief and induced back-to-back groundouts to help MU escape with a 6-5 win.
GAME TWO
  • Lynchburg came ready to play, pounding out five hits and scoring five runs in the bottom of the first.
  • Marymount finally put up a crooked number in the top of the fourth courtesy of Johnson's home run to left center to make it 5-1.
  • The Hornets scored an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-1.
  • Lynchburg added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a mercy-rule victory, 9-1.
 
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will remain on the road for a doubleheader at McDaniel on Thursday, March 30 beginning at 3 PM.
  • The Saints will not be back at Barcroft Park until Saturday, April 15 against Immaculata at 2:30 PM.
