ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount softball picked up a doubleheader split on Wednesday afternoon over the Blazers of Hood College.
After dropping game one, 11-8, the Saints powered back, winning decisively 8-0 in game two to move to 7-9 on the season, still 2-0 in conference play.Â

- Nicole Gilroy knocked her first career home run in game one, driving in three total RBI on the day.Â
- Shanyn Burch pitched a 6.0 inning shutout in game two, allowing just four total hits while striking out four with no walks allowed. She also had three hits in the doubleheader with a home run.
- Caitlyn Oakland had three hits on the day, with a big RBI in the game two win.Â
- Kaylynn Johnson went a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate in game one, collecting a pair of RBI between both games.
How It Happened
Game One
- Hood got on the board first with four runs in the top of the first inning.
- Johnson knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put a dent into the Blazers' lead.Â
- Gilroy's home run came in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Oakland to put the Saints within one.Â
- An RBI double from Burch evened up the tally in the bottom of the second.Â
- Hood plated three in the top frame of the third inning, continuing the strong offensive trend from both teams. The Saints scored in the bottom frame to keep themselves within reach.
- Down the stretch of game one, Hood was able to hold the Saints, with the final scoring coming from Burch's home run.
Game Two
- The second game of the day was all Marymount, as they would score three runs in the first inning to take the early lead, highlighted by Oakland's RBI triple
- Kammie Brown and Johnson each had RBI hits in the bottom of the fifth to keep the momentum on Marymount's bench.
- A sacrifice fly from Gilroy ended the contest, with Marymount taking the 8-0 win.
