Power on Display as Baseball Drops Extra Innings Affair to #15 Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Marymount baseball held strong with #15 Catholic on Wednesday afternoon, ultimately falling in extra innings to the Cardinals.

The Saints drop to 9-8 overall on the season with the loss, with Atlantic East play coming this upcoming weekend.

Notable
  • Joseph Kramp powered two home runs in the contest, the first two of his career. He collected two total RBI while scoring three runs himself.
  • Craig Sodano knocked his second home run on the season.
  • Ryan Cuadros pitched the quality start on the mound, going 5.1 innings pitched with seven strikouts, allowing just three earned runs on three hits.
  • Bryce Smith went 3-of-4 from the third spot in the lineup, knocking in an RBI.
  • Out of a pinch hitting role, Andrew Schaeb collected two RBI on two hits in three at-bats.
  • Ryan Maylie had an RBI double in the game.
  • Out of the leadoff spot, Bobby Leitzel went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
  • Jimmy Baker had two hits and an RBI.
How It Happened
  • The Saints offense got rolling in the bottom of the first inning, with Smith driving in a run with a double to left to put MU up quickly.
  • Leitzel knocked an RBI hit in the bottom frame of the second, then would help force another run across with smart baserunning to put the Saints up 3-0 after two innings played.
  • After a lone Cardinal run came across in the top of the third, the Saints battled back with a two-RBI double from Maylie in the third, then a solo shot from Kramp in the fourth to go up 6-1.
  • CU put the game within a run, then it was the Saints again battling, with Sodano and Kramp going back-to-back over the wall to put momentum back to the Marymount bench.
  • The two teams continued to battle down the stretch, with the Saints erasing a four-run deficit to give themselves a chance in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Ultimately, the Cardinals prevailed, plating two in the top of the 10th inning and holding the Saints off.
Up Next
  • Marymount will open Atlantic East play this Friday, taking on the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy.
  • The game will be played at 3 PM at Patriot Park in Fairfax, Va.
  • The Saints will then travel to Gwynedd-Mercy to finish up the three-game set on Saturday.
