Softball Sweeps Washington

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount softball picked up a pair of impressive non-conference wins over Washington College (Md.) on Wednesday afternoon at Barcroft Park.

NOTABLE GAME ONE
  • Washington took an early lead on a first-inning double.
  • In the bottom of the first inning, Burch hit a three-run homer to dead center to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.
  • The Shorewomen tied the game with runs in the third and fifth innings.
  • Atkins and Johnson hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
  • Washington got one run back in the seventh, but the Saints closed out the win by inducing a flyout with the bases loaded.
GAME TWO
  • It took until the fourth inning, but the Shorewomen broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single.
  • In the bottom of the frame, Atkins hit a two-run shot to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Johnson followed up with a dinger of her own to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • Washington took the lead back after scoring four runs in the fifth. They added another run in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead.
  • Samantha Cinotti drew a bases-loaded walk to get one run back in the bottom of the frame.
  • Atkins then brought home Jaclyn Burch with an RBI single to right field.  
  • With two outs and the bases loaded, Kiernan smoked a double that went over the centerfielder's head to give the Saints an 8-6 lead.
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will travel to the Grand Slam Tournament in North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Saints will play Rhode Island and William Peace on Saturday before playing North Carolina Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon on Sunday.
